Forest Service Geospatial Office

Ty Nietupski serves as a Geographic Information Systems Specialist at the USDA Forest Service Geospatial Office where he focuses on the development and application of geospatial workflows to address agency priority issues and support field information needs. Ty is passionate about fostering innovation within the Forest Service through the initiation of a wide array of geospatial technology evaluation projects and technology transfer activities. Since starting his full-time federal service in 2022, Ty has engaged with field applications related to forest health, natural disturbances, wildfire, rangeland management, and invasive species. A major component of these engagements has been the creation of new geospatial solutions to enhance land management capabilities.

Prior to his federal career, Ty’s dedication to natural resource management led him to roles within private, academic, and non-profit organizations. Years of field experience spurred Ty's interest in the realm of geospatial science and remote sensing after seeing, first-hand, the scale of information needed to assess resource conditions and make informed land management decisions. Exploring possibilities within geospatial technology has allowed Ty to form fruitful collaborations across government, private, and academic sectors, which have resulted in meaningful, real-world impacts.
